So What is Design in Action?

  • 3 min read

It’s exactly what it sounds like, and more.

Static design is a relic of the past. Why? In today’s world, change happens more often and in bigger ways than ever before. Which means companies that invest in their employees have all but ditched the traditional, desk-centric offices popularized decades ago. Spaces today need to be dynamic and designed to evolve.

Which is why we’re championing what we call Design in Action.

Think about it for a second. When have you—whether at home or at work—decided on a layout, purchased furniture and accessories, set it and left it that exact way for years and years to come. You’re laughing to yourself, right? Because it’s not the way we live… and it’s definitely not the way we collaborate, gather or get inspired. Keep reading to learn why we’re creating storage solutions that are active and designed to be at the forefront of your office experience.

Storage-first Spaces

We can all agree that technology and the pandemic have forced major changes in the modern workplace. Imagine turning off your desktop computer after a day of doing silent, solo work in one place. Now, in order to make life at the office not just functional, but beautiful and inspired, we’re calling for a storage-first mindset.

Lockers and cubbies add personal, secure storage, while space divider storage serves as a shared resource and creates more zones for meetings and collaboration. Your floorplate’s layout influences the flow of someone’s workday, so why not create one that balances openness with togetherness?

Pieces that Grow with You

Designing an office from scratch is an undertaking. Which is why we design our pieces so that never has to happen again. You have the option of customizing your Heartwork storage with casters, which means you can literally wheel them around your floorplate before restacking. Even if you choose levelers, know your Heartwork storage is not an architectural investment, but one that can move with you to your next location.

They’re built to last: commercial-grade, made well using US-manufactured steel and GREENGUARD Gold and HPD certified. With over 30 different base units,  plus various stackers and accessories to personalize, Building Block products are modular and designed to be combined and stacked in endless ways, just like legos. Every single one of our products is available in our 12 exclusive powder-coat colors, a system that was created in collaboration with color expert Laura Guido-Clark of Love Good Color to make it easy for you to create palettes that make you feel good.

We’re in Action

After a year of conversations with clients, we went from listening mode to problem-solving. You said you needed more options to help design flexible, open spaces and we heard you. We recently released four new products, concentrated in our Building Block Collection. The Building Block Stacker is now available as an Open Hutch, Open Cubby and Open Frame Stacker. We also added the Building Block Closed Cubby for more personal items.

Our favorite part about this release is that these products were purposefully designed to work with our existing offering, meaning our new designs aren’t here to replace any products in your Heartwork collection, but instead be additive to it.

Storage isn’t passive. A space shouldn’t be static. Explore our Building Block collection—including our newest products designed to encourage more openness and collaboration—and join the club of people who Design in Action.
